Once voted ‘best bar in the world’ by Lonely Planet, quirky local haunt The Harbour Bar in Bray, Wicklow is best known for its impromptu trad music sessions, Irish street food and range of session ales. Put on the map by its connection to James Joyce’s ‘Finnegan’s Wake’, the bar has plenty of other tales to tell...
Actor Peter O’Toole was a regular visitor when he was filming nearby – he donated the famous moose head from Woody Allen’s What’s New, Pussycat? to the staff for ensuring his safe return to his hotel each night! Laurence Olivier, Katharine Hepburn and Brendan Behan are some of the other notables to have joined the ranks of Joyce and O’Toole.
While you're there, be sure to sample a Wicklow Wolf beer. The brewery is located just a stone’s throw from the bar, and its dedicated team grow their own hops to produce a delicious range of craft beers. It’s named for the last in a line of legendary wolves, that some believe lived in the area and once ruled Ireland!
