The Boann Distillery in Meath is run by the close-knit Cooney family. Managing director and father of the bunch is Pat, a self-confessed practitioner of the ‘lost art’ of whistling, and a master storyteller!
Together with his wife Marie and their children, Peter, Sally-Anne, James and Patrick Jr, they produce some of Ireland’s finest whiskey, as well as a gin infused with botanicals native only to the pretty Boyne Valley.
The family philosophy is to use only local produce – even the distillery’s water is drawn right from a well on their land. Boann also marks the return of brewing to Drogheda after a 50-year break. Taste the delicious spirits on offer (as well as sister company Boyne Brewhouse’s three tasty craft beers) during a guided tour.
