Panorama view of Camden Fort Meagher Military History at Camden Fort Meagher Spiral Staircase at Camden Fort Meagher

Camden Fort Meagher is a former British Military Fort, internationally recognised as being one of the finest remaining examples of a classical Coastal Artillery Fort in the world. Occupying a 45 acre site, the fort is in the picturesque coastal town of Crosshaven. 65 percent of the fort is underground in a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers. Since 2010 a small group of local volunteers have worked tirelessly with the help and support of project partners Cork County Council to bring the fort back to life. Through the work and dedication of the team the fort has been opened to the public as one of Cork’s newest tourist attractions, each year having more of this hidden gem exposed and ready to explore. Onsite attractions include the bright tunnel, Granite Spiral Staircase, magazine and multiple exhibition rooms. If that all sounds like too much hard work why not enjoy the delights of Lynch's Centra Crosshaven from the tea room with glass fronted deck area affording a panoramic view of Cork Harbour, the second largest natural harbour in the world. There is a full calendar of events each weekend throughout the summer, including live music, military re-enactments, exhibitions vintage cars, Model show and lots more. The fort is open from 12 noon to 5pm every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday until September. Last entry is at 4.15pm. Please allow plenty of time to explore and enjoy the fort, given the size of the site and the various exhibitions available. Note: The fort is not open midweek while the project team continue to restore the area.
