The Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival has had the country in stitches every summer since 1995, and it is long established as one of Ireland’s best comedy festivals, and best festivals period.
This is the 24th edition of the festival and the second one which will be curated by the team of Matt Smyth and Dan Colley of Collapsing Horse, a theatre collective which formed in 2012 and has since become one of the most vital and witty voices in theatre.
The Cat Laughs will play host to both burgeoning talent like Dreamgun Film Reads and their whacky takes on old screenplays and absurdist sketch artist Tony Cantwell, as well as established names with the likes of Aisling Bea, Maeve Higgins, Blindboy, and David O’Doherty all performing this year.
There’s also international stars like Reginald D Hunter and the team behind the satirical women’s website Reductress, as well as non-comedy events like a screening of Talking Heads’ concert film Stop Making Sense, a live episode of the wonderful sports podcast Second Captains, and even an Ireland vs the Rest of the World Comedians Football Match.
It’s bumper line-up spread and it’s spread all across the city of Kilkenny making for a wonderful way to spend the June Bank Holiday weekend.
