This is one of the most stunning light displays in Ireland's South East. The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens are transformed into a Magical Winter Wonderland which ends with a visit to the Winter Fairy in her glowing dome overlooking the pond.
The 'Enchanted Garden-Winter Light Festival' now in it's fourth year is quickly becoming one of the most stunning Winter Light Displays in the Country. The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens light the gardens for four weeks (Early December to Early January) and open up from 17:00 to 20:00 every evening.
Adults and children are mesmerized by the fantastic light displays which culminate in a visit to the ‘Winter Fairy’ who resides in a glowing Dome on the Pond. The Trees, structures and landscape are tastefully lit with background music taking you on a journey through this magical winter wonderland. Visitors enjoy coffee, gluhwein and hot chocolate by the fire.
This year’s opening ceremony will welcome members of ‘The Island of Ireland Peace Choir’ to begin the celebrations on the 6th December 2019. Due to demand the event now stays open beyond Christmas and New Year’s Eve and is celebrated in early evening to coincide with Japanese New Year and to allow children to enjoy the event. Music will also be to the forefront of the New Year’s Eve Celebrations.
Visitors now come from all over the country to attend the event and once through the gates of the Victorian Garden they follow the lights through the American and Greek Gardens before entering the magic of Japan. Lafcadio Hearn translated much folklore and fairytale in Japan and the gardens in themselves are a magical place to visit by day at anytime of the year. However the enchantment of the Winter Light Festival is unrivalled as adults and children alike are transported to another world of pure imagination.
