The Shackleton Autumn School Festival is the perfect place for budding adventurers and historians of such events to get together in Athy and celebrate the capabilities of the human spirit.
There will be a lecture series at the library where you can learn about subjects like Norway’s Polar History and The Ross Sea Party, 1914-1917. Of course, Enda O’Coineen will deliver a talk on exploration since the time of Shackleton, the Irish explorer for whom the festival is named.
In addition, there will be a performance of Tom Crean - Antarctic Explorer and a showing of contemporary film reels from Byrd’s 1933-1835 expedition to the Antarctic.
